It contained three novelettes, one of which, "Djuna," was the fictionalized Henry-June-Anais relationship. This novelette was lost with the onset of war and the death of the publisher, Jack Kahane, all a few weeks after the book's release. The American version of the same title was heavily edited to escape the censors and to appeal to a less open American readership, and in the process the original book was lost to history. However, in 2007, Sky Blue Press created a facsimile of the original 1939 edition and published it nearly 70 years after the fact. Only in this edition will you see this version of Nin's writing, a version that was heavily influenced by Henry Miller, who wrote volumnous notes in the margins of the manuscript and insisted that Nin write more "realism," a style which she rejected shortly thereafter. A small edition of a hardcover version is available to readers now, perhaps never to be seen again thereafter due to restrictions of the print run.
