Volume 3 focuses on all three of the "Musketeers," as Anais Nin, Henry Miller, and Lawrence Durrell called themselves. Miller's fascination with Japan and his relationship with Nin are studied, and several of the world's foremost scholars examine the work of Durrell, especially in the context of Alexandria, Egypt, the setting for his famous Alexandria Quartet. Nin's early correspondence with her agent Gunther Stuhlmann details what he had to do in order to resurrect her flagging writing career in the late 1950s and how Nin nearly gave it all up.
